The filters first, and they lift out and rinse under a tap — that is free and it ends a good share of these calls. Then the air gap on the counter and the drain hose behind the machine, which is where a high loop gets lost when a dishwasher is pushed back into its opening: without it the sink drains into the machine rather than the machine into the sink. Only when that path is clear does the pump become the answer. ### The dishes come out dirty and the machine seems to run fine. Which rack is worse is the useful clue and you can read it from the kitchen. One clean rack and one dirty one usually means the water is not being sent to both — a spray arm caught on a tall item, or the diverter that switches between them. Both racks equally poor, with the arms turning freely, is a different question and usually a wash or heating one. ### The lights are blinking in a pattern and there is no display. Then that pattern is the code, and it is worth writing down or filming before anything is switched off.
