### Finding it costs more than fixing it

A door gasket, a sump seal, a hose that weeps only under pressure at one point in the cycle — the parts are inexpensive and the time is in locating them. So the machine is dried, run and watched rather than taken apart on a guess, and which minute the water appears in narrows it to fill, wash or drain before anything is opened. In a fitted kitchen there is a second job underneath the first: the carcass and the toe kick, which absorb a slow leak for months and are the expensive half of the repair by the time anybody notices.

What this involves

Found by running the machine and watching, not by guessing at the part

A leak that appears at one point in the cycle points at one part

The cabinet base is inspected before we leave

Dry everything and run it

Paper towel along the front, the sides and behind, and the cycle watched. Which minute it appears in narrows it to fill, wash or drain.

The door and its gasket

Along the whole run and at the corners, and the door checked for square while it is open.

The sump, the seals and the hoses

Including the connections behind the machine, which are the ones that weep rather than pour.

Look at what has been getting wet

The carcass and the toe kick. A slow leak damages a kitchen long before it makes a puddle anybody notices.

### It leaks onto the floor only sometimes.

That is a hose or a seal giving under pressure and closing again after. Noting which part of the cycle it happens in is worth more than any description of how much water there was.

### Should I stop using it until you come?

If it is reaching a wooden floor or a cabinet run, yes. If it is a small amount onto tile, one more cycle run and watched is genuinely useful to us.
