Before anybody arrives you can halve the diagnosis: one clean rack and one dirty rack means water is not being sent to both, which is a spray arm caught on a tall item or the diverter that switches between them. Both racks equally poor with the arms turning freely is a different question entirely and usually about heat or water rather than mechanics. On this supply, mineral belongs in that second answer more often than anyone expects.

Ask which rack

One bad rack is the diverter or an arm caught on a tall item. Both bad is wash, heat or water.

The arms and the filters

Spun by hand, holes checked, filters lifted and rinsed. Free, and right often enough to do first every time.

The water side

Fill quantity, temperature and hardness. Mineral here narrows a spray hole and coats a heater, and neither is reported as itself.

Then the diverter and the circulation pump

Measured rather than swapped, because the two present identically from the kitchen.

### It got worse gradually rather than suddenly.

That pattern points at scale or a filter rather than at a part, because a mechanical failure is usually abrupt. Gradual decline over a year is the water doing what this water does.

### Does prewashing help?

It usually hurts. These machines decide how hard to work partly from how dirty the water is, and a load rinsed spotless before it goes in can get the gentlest cycle the machine has.
