# Maytag evaporator fan repair

### The reason one half is cold and the other is not

One compressor serves the whole cabinet, so a freezer holding its number is proof that cold is being made. What has stopped is its delivery, and the part that delivers it sits behind the rear panel with the shelves out. The diagnosis is longer than the repair: the fan runs with the door shut, so it has to be made to run with the door open before anything is concluded, and a blade stopped by ice is a defrost problem wearing a fan complaint. On this make nothing on the front of the appliance will point at any of it.

Confirm the split

Thermometers in both compartments for long enough to be sure, because a cabinet recovering from a long door opening looks the same for an hour.

Listen at the back with the door switch held

Off with the rear panel

Motor, blade and the ice that may have stopped it. A blade jammed by frost is a defrost problem wearing a fan complaint.

Air at the vents afterwards

Measured rather than felt, in both compartments, before the shelves go back.

### It hums but the food side is still warm.

A hum with no airflow is usually a blade held by frost rather than a dead motor, which is the cheaper of the two and also the one that comes back if the ice is not explained.

### Will you have to empty the freezer?

The shelves and the rear panel have to come out, so yes for the duration. It is worth having a cooler ready — it turns a two-hour inconvenience into a manageable one.
