# Maytag ice maker water line and fill valve service

### The chain between the shut-off and the mold

Half a dozen links, and a restriction in any of them starves the module gradually enough that nothing ever looks wrong. A saddle valve half open since installation, a filter kept past its date, the gentle kink a line takes when a cabinet is pushed back into its opening, or building pressure that sags at certain hours — each produces smaller cubes and fewer of them, month after month. These modules mind flow rather than pressure, which is why the tap under the sink feeling strong proves nothing at all.

What this involves

Flow measured at the machine, not judged from the kitchen tap

Filter age is a real variable here and it is treated as one

The kink a reinstall leaves in the line is looked for every time

The shut-off, which is often only half open

Left that way at installation, or closed during work under the sink and never fully turned back.

Past its life it restricts before it discolors anything, and on this water that happens sooner than the label assumes.

The line behind the cabinet

Pinched when the appliance was last rolled out, or run somewhere it freezes on cabinets that route it through the compartment.

Then the valve, under pressure

Screens, coil and the valve itself measured while it is being asked to work, not at rest.

### The water in the door is fine, so the supply must be fine.

Not necessarily. The dispenser and the module are fed from the same line but ask different things of it, and a restriction shows in the timed fill long before it shows in a glass.

### How is the flow actually measured?

Into a jug, against a watch, at the machine end rather than at the tap. It takes two minutes and it settles the question that everything else depends on.
