# Maytag washer leak repair

### Which minute it leaks in points at which part

So that is the first question, and it is one you can answer before anybody arrives. Water at fill is a valve or a connection; during the wash it is the boot, a hose or the pump seal; at drain it is the pump or the waste. On a front-loader the door boot is the usual answer — a rubber fold that spends its life wet in a room that never fully dries here, with a coin or an underwire caught in the bottom of it. That job is done with the drum in place, which keeps it on the cheaper side of the list.

What this involves

Which minute of the cycle it leaks at points at which part

On a front-loader the boot is the usual answer, and it is a drum-in-place job

The floor and the cabinet under it are checked, not just the machine

Run it dry and watch

Fill, wash, drain. A leak that appears only under pressure is a hose or a seal; one that appears at fill is a valve or a connection.

The boot, all the way round

Including the bottom, where it holds water and where the tears start. A coin caught in the fold does this over months.

Hoses, pump seal and dispenser

Including the connections at the wall, which are plumbing and are named as such.

What the water has been sitting on

In a closet with a wooden floor this matters within days, not weeks.

### There is water only under the machine, not in front.

That points behind rather than at the door — a hose connection, the pump seal, or the waste at the wall. It is also the version that soaks a floor for weeks before anybody sees it.

### Is it safe to keep using?

On tile, one more watched cycle is genuinely useful. On a wooden floor or in an upstairs closet, stop and call: the floor is the expensive part of this repair, not the machine.
