# Maytag microwave runs but does not heat

### Confirm it, then stop

Put a cup of cold water in and run it for a full minute on high. If the water is genuinely no warmer, the machine is not producing heat and that is a firm finding rather than an impression. Check for a demonstration mode indicator while you are there, because a unit in that mode runs every light and sound and produces nothing at all. Then leave it alone. The control board

It never asks for heat. Less common than the parts above and diagnosed after them.

### It heats sometimes.

That is more likely a door switch than the magnetron, and it is a considerably smaller repair. Mention the intermittence when you book because it changes what we expect to find.

### There was a loud buzz and then nothing.

Say so when you call. A noise at the moment it stopped is a real clue and it points at the high voltage side.

### The vent fan and light still work.

They usually do, and that is exactly what makes this confusing. Those run off a different circuit from the one that makes heat.
